4 Days Uganda gorillas and wildlife safari.

Tour overview.

This carefully crafted 4-day Uganda safari combines two of Africa’s most extraordinary wildlife experiences: gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that shelters roughly half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas, and a classic savannah safari in Queen Elizabeth National Park, where the famous tree-climbing lions of Ishasha share the landscape with hippos, elephants, buffalo, leopards, and over 600 bird species.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

Wake before dawn. There is a particular kind of quiet at Bwindi in those early hours  the forest exhaling mist, the air cool against your skin, the first birds calling invisibly from deep in the canopy.

By 7:30 AM, you arrive at the park headquarters for registration and your final trekking briefing from the park rangers who will lead your group. Groups are assigned to specific habituated gorilla families, and each family lives in a different part of the forest. Some treks take 45 minutes. Others, on difficult terrain in thick forest, may take 5 to 6 hours depending on the locations of these great apes.

When you find the gorillas, the hour you spend with them passes like minutes. Silverbacks who regard you with a calm authority that reads as wisdom. Mothers nursing infants against their chests. Juveniles that tumble down slopes and bounce off tree roots with the unguarded joy of children who have never known fear. You may be sitting no more than seven metres away. You do not photograph this moment so much as absorb it.

Later return to your lodge for  for lunch and relaxation as you wait for dinner.

Day 4: Kazinga Channel Boat Cruise & Departure

Your final morning in Queen Elizabeth National Park belongs to the Kazinga Channel. This 32-kilometre natural waterway connects Lake Edward to Lake George, and along its banks you will find one of the highest concentrations of wildlife in Africa.

The two-hour boat cruise from Mweya jetty is a slow, privileged journey past hundreds of hippos (Queen Elizabeth is home to an estimated 5,000), massive Nile crocodiles sunning on the banks, African buffalo drinking at the water’s edge, and a parade of elephants that often wade in right alongside the boats.

The birding on the Kazinga Channel is world-class. African skimmers skim the surface. Pied kingfishers hover and dive. Great white pelicans drift in formation. Malachite kingfishers flash brilliant orange and cobalt from the reeds.

After the cruise and a final lunch in the park, your driver-guide begins the return journey to Kampala or Entebbe, arriving in the early evening in time for a domestic connection or an international overnight flight.
