Day 1: Arrival and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Once you land, one of our friendly driver-guides will be waiting to welcome you at the airport. They’ll walk you through the details of your trip and answer any questions before setting off on the drive to Volcanoes National Park. On arrival, you’ll settle in at your lodge, unwind after the journey, and enjoy dinner before an overnight stay.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes & Visit to Iby’Iwacu

This is the day you’ve been waiting for — your chance to meet the mountain gorillas of Volcanoes National Park face-to-face. After a hearty breakfast, your guide will collect you from the lodge for a ranger briefing at 7:30 am. By 8:30 am, packed lunch in hand, you’ll set off into the forest in search of the gorilla families that call these slopes home. Once you locate them, you’ll get to spend up to an hour observing these gentle giants in their natural habitat. Depending on where the gorillas happen to be that day, the full trek can run anywhere from four to five hours, and the terrain is steep in places, so a reasonable level of fitness will make the experience much more enjoyable.

After lunch, you’ll head to the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village, a community closely tied to gorilla conservation efforts in the region. Here you’ll be introduced to authentic Rwandan traditions — think lively traditional dance, storytelling through poetry, colorful traditional dress, and other customs that offer a genuine window into local life and heritage.

Day 3: Golden Monkey Trekking & Transfer to Kigali

Following breakfast, you’ll make your way to the park’s briefing point to go over the essential guidelines for golden monkey trekking. The trail leads through the forest edge, cutting across nearby potato fields, with the briefing itself taking place at the Kinigi park office — the usual starting point for this activity. Expect the trek to take roughly three to four hours in total.

Once you’ve spent time observing these playful, acrobatic primates, you’ll head back to the lodge for lunch. Afterward, it’s time to check out and begin the drive back to Kigali, where your trip wraps up in time for your flight home.
