Akagera National Park

Akagera National Park lies in Tanzania’s borders, to the east of Rwanda. The major goal of the organization, which was founded in 1943, was to protect the plants and animals in the area. Akagera is a park that encompasses around 1122 km2. It has a wide range of plants and animals, including the big five mammals, as well as bushes, dense woodlands, rolling hills, lakes, rivers, and marshes. You won’t be able to regret your trip because all of these benefits work together to give you a lot of different things to do.

Best time to visit the Akagera national park.

The park is best visited in the dry season when the roads are less slick. The dry season is also the best time to watch animals because the water tends to evaporate. Animals gather close to the few available water sources as a result.

This season lasts from December to February. Tourists can visit the park during the rainy months of March and April if they find the intense heat and excessive dust of the dry season unpleasant.

Things to do in Akagera National Park

Akagera National Park is Rwanda’s best savanna destination. It has exciting Big Five game drives, beautiful boat safaris on Lake Ihema, and a wide range of birdwatching opportunities, including the uncommon Shoebill. Some of the most important things to do include night game drives, sport fishing on Lake Shakani, community culture excursions, and walking safaris along the fence line.

Game drives

When it comes to wildlife sightings, Akagera is the preferred savannah area for game drives. These cost $50 USD, $150 USD and are scheduled in the morning, afternoon and evening. A guide will accompany you as you drive through the park on these excursions, which are always exciting and full of surprises.

Boat trips

Another highlight of your trip to Akagera National park is this fascinating boat ride. Accessibility to Akagera

There are a lot of roads that make it easy to get to Akagera National Park. The easiest method to get to the park is to fly into Kigali International Airport, which is the major hub for Akagera Airlines flights that carry people to the park.

It takes about 2.5 to 3 hours to reach from Kigali City to any of the park’s entrances by either public or private transportation. It takes around an hour to get from the city to Kibungo by private car. NOTE: A 4WD vehicle is suggested because the park’s roads are in bad shape during the rainy season.
