Overview of Virunga Lodge.
Virunga resort is a cozy mountain resort with nearly 360-degree views of the surroundings, perched atop a tall hill with a commanding view of the five extinct Virunga Volcanoes. Below, surrounded by distant hills and the calderas of the volcanoes, is a patchwork of farms and the stunning volcanic Lakes Ruhondo and Bulera.
The peaceful Virunga Lodge was constructed using stone and wood in the traditional manner. After a long day of following gorillas or golden monkeys, you may unwind around a log fire in the evenings and share stories.
The lodge was constructed in accordance with strict environmental guidelines; solar energy is used to generate electricity and rainwater is collected. At Virunga Lodge, guests can engage in gorilla trekking, tracking golden monkeys, visiting the grave of famed primatologist and conservationist Dian Fossey, and hiking to the summit of the volcanoes.

Virunga Lodge offers two twin and four double bandas that are tastefully decorated and equipped for a comfortable and cozy stay in Rwanda’s mountains. Every accommodation features a fireplace to keep the chill off the air in the evenings, a private balcony with expansive views of Volcanoes National Park, and a private en suite bathroom.

The Deluxe Bandas offer a little extra room and style, making them ideal for families and honeymooners. In between your excursions with the gorillas and golden monkeys, relax in the cozy mattresses, drink a nightcap in the large sitting room while the fire keeps you warm, and take in the breathtaking views of the surrounding environment from your sunny terrace.
Wildlife & Activities
Gorilla Trekking: This is one of the top activity to do from the lodge then to Volcanoes national park. Gorilla trekking is one of those activities that offer incredible and out standing experiences.
You can decide to spend a night at the lodge before preparing for your gorilla trekking adventure.
Golden monkey trekking: Volcanoes national park is also a home to the golden monkey species. Golden monkeys are among the best creatures to look for while on a safari in Volcanoes national park. Unlike the gorillas, golden monkeys can easily be seen due to their golden-brown colour.
The golden monkey trekking experience also involves one hour for interaction. It involves taking photos and as well as clear viewing of these creatures about how they go about their activities.
Hiking to Dianna Fossey grave: This is one of the other activities to do while you are from Virunga lodge. Dianna Fossey is one of the unique primatologists who spent all their time conserving these amazing great apes.

How to get to Virunga lodge?
By road
Virunga lodge can easily be accessible especially using road means. After your arrival in Kigali, you will drive in the northern parts close to Volcanoes national park in order to access Virunga lodge.
Through Air
Virunga lodge can still be accessed through air transport. Private helicopter transfers can be arranged from Kigali to a landing site near the lodge. This is approximately a 30 minutes drive.
NB: Booking in advance is highly recommended, you inform the lodge to assist you with the arrangements.
Tips for travellers booking Virunga Lodge.
Booking Early:Because the lodge has only six villas, we highly recommend advance booking to avoid disappointments, occupancy is quite limited.
Secure Gorilla Permits First: Gorilla trekking is the main activity done around Bisate lodge. Please note that permits are limited and fixed to specific days. These permits are also served at first come, first serve so always buy your permits in time before finalizing your stay.
Stay at Least 3 Nights: Booking 3 nights gives you enough time to acclimate as well as rest. Further ore you have enough time to experience fully the lodges activities such as gorilla trekking safaris, nature excursions, community visits, and golden monkey treks.
Pack Smart:Pack the necessary items such as a camera with a zoom lens, gloves, rain gear, waterproof hiking boots, and layers for chilly mornings. You could be surprised at the altitude.
Request Villa Preference:Virunga lodge gives you an opportunity to select a room that you would like depending on the villa type. This can be done through talking with your tour operator.
