Detailed Itinerary
Day 1 of 9 Days Rwanda gorilla safari: Arrival at Kigali city and have a city tour & transfer to Nyungwe national park
Upon your arrival at the Airport, your tour guide welcomes you and takes you for a short briefing at the hotel. Proceed for Kigali city and visit the genocide memorial museum, The city tour includes a visit to the old town of Nyamirambo, the new hand craft village and many other shops, the batwa pottery, dance centre and the Gisozi genocide memorial. Have lunch en route and after proceed to Nyungwe National Park. Overnight at Nyungwe hill top Lodge. Meal plan. Full board
Day 2 of 9 Days Rwanda gorilla safari: Hiking and trekking along the colobus trails in Nyungwe Forest.
Have breakfast and then proceed to track the Nyungwe Colobus Monkeys, trekking these monkeys is a great offer in Nyungwe forest, these can be found in troops of several hundred individuals and are believed to be among the largest numbers worldwide. Have a walk in the forest while experiencing these great species with the knowledgeable tour guides. After, return to your lodge for lunch. Dinner and overnight at Nyugwe Hill top hotel.
Day 3 of 9 Days Rwanda gorilla safari: Chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe Forest, and connect to Kibuye in the afternoon.
Have breakfast and then head off at the headquarters for briefing about the dos and don’ts of chimpanzee trekking. The activity starts off from three reception centers, in Uwinka, Kitabi as well as Gisakura where the tourists meet the park rangers; you drive to the starting point of the trek into the forest. You get to spend 1 hour with the chimps in the forest and get to see them so closely as they go about their own lives and enjoy the human like features and behaviors that make them our closest relatives. After the trek, connect to Kibuye and have an overnight at Kibuye Guest House
Day 4 of 9 Days Rwanda gorilla safari: Depart from Kibuye for Kinigi via Gisenyi and Ruhengeri
After breakfast proceed to Kinigi in Volcanoes national park from Kibuye via Gisenyi and Ruhengeri. This drive is 6 hours and passes the most beautiful sceneries, offering very spectacular views of the tea growing countryside of Kayove and Gisovu. Have a brief stop where you will take some photography and refreshments. The 4 hour drive takes you to Gisenyi for lunch as well as a brief city tour. After drive for 2 hours to Ruhengeri which is the base of mountain gorillas. Dinner and overnight at Kinigi Guest House. Meal plan: Full board
Day 5 of 9 Days Rwanda gorilla safari: Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes national park, visit the twin lakes of Rubondo and Bulera
Have breakfast and drive to Kinigi station park headquarters for briefing on the dos and don’ts while carrying out gorilla trekking. Gorilla trekking takes 2- 5 hours, depending on their movements as you are given 1 hour with the mountain gorillas to take some photos. Return to the lodge for lunch and in the afternoon; visit the twin volcanic lakes of Burera and Ruhondo. Dinner and overnight at Kinigi Guest House/ La palme lodge. Meal plan: Full board
Day 6 of 9 Days Rwanda gorilla safari: Have a day hike to the Volcanic Mount Bisoke
After breakfast proceed for hiking of Mt Bisoke, with the very beautiful great Crater Lake. This hike to the Crater Lake takes 3 hours up and 2 hours down. The Mt Bisoke is good for those who are fit; after return to the lodge for lunch and relax in the evening. Dinner and overnight at Mountain Gorilla View lodge. Meal plan: Full Board
Day 7 of 9 Days Rwanda gorilla safari: Drive to Akagera National Park & have a boat ride along lake Ihema
Start the drive to Kigali after breakfast and then enjoy the drive to Akagera National Park, through the rolling plains, composed of dense, broad leafed woodland, rolling grassland, lighter acacia woodland and the extensive series of Lakes that are linked by papyrus swamps forming an extensive wetland. Have lunch and then proceed for a boat cruise on Lake Ihema, where you will have a closer at Marine animals like the crocodiles, birds, hippos and dinner at Akagera Game lodge. Meal plan: Full board
Day 8 of 9 Days Rwanda gorilla safari: Have a game drive in Akagera national Park
After breakfast join your ranger in an open vehicle for your gorilla safari into the Akagera National Park for game drive that will give you an opportunity to see many animals including; elephants, buffaloes, Masai giraffes, impala, baboons, oribi, topis bush baby, leopards and bush buck. Have lunch and relax while having a talk about the safari experience.
Day 9 of 9 Days Rwanda gorilla safari: Travel to Kigali city
Have breakfast and then connect to Kigali city, do some shopping and latter transfer to the airport and catch your flight back home. End of safari
