Detailed Itinerary
Day 1 of 5 days luxury Congo gorilla safari: Pick up and transfer to Goma
Upon arrival at the Kigali Airport, you are welcomed and driven via Gisenyi Rwanda Congo border town. Have lunch here before continuing to Goma north of Lake Kivu for dinner and an overnight at lake Kivu serena. Meal Plan: Full board
Day 2 of 5 days luxury Congo gorilla safari: Gorilla trekking in Virunga national Park
Have breakfast and then head to the park head quarters for the briefing about the dos and don’ts of gorilla trekking in Virunga National Park. The rangers will escort you to start your search of these mountain gorillas. You are given 1 hour to interact and take pictures with these great species once you find them. Expect to meet other animals such as colobuses, monkeys, bird species and many more. After, return to the lodge for dinner and overnight at Mkeno lodge. Meal Plan: Full board
Day 3 of 5 days luxury Congo gorilla safari: Enjoy the Nyiragongo Hike
After breakfast proceed for the famous Nyiragongo hike which is an active volcano. You start with a simple briefing and by 10:00 am, you start the hike with packed lunch and drinking water. The hike to the top will take you 5 to 6 hours depending on your fitness and speed. The summit of the volcano will offer you with a clear view of the nearby communities. Overnight in tented camps at the summit.
Day 4 of 5 days luxury Congo gorilla safari: Nyiragongo & transfer to Kahuzi National Park
Today is descending back from the volcano and transfer to Kahuzi Biega National Park, which is home to the eastern lowland gorillas. The Eastern Lowland gorilla is a subspecies of the eastern gorilla endemic to the mountainous forests of eastern DR Congo, the largest of the four gorilla species and it has got a jet black coat like the mountain gorilla, though the hair is shorter on the head and body. Get to the lodge for dinner and overnight at Orchid safari Lodge. Meal Plan: Full board
Day 5 of 5 days luxury Congo gorilla safari: Track the eastern low land gorillas & departure
Have breakfast and head for the briefing about the dos and donts of gorilla trekking at the head quarters. You start the hike into the forest searching trekking for gorillas after which you descend back to the lodge. In the afternoon, transfer via Cyangigu boarder to Kigali for a connecting flight back home
