Rules and guidelines to follow while interacting with these mountain gorillas?

Although it is an amazing opportunity to interact with mountain gorillas, there are stringent regulations in place to safeguard both the gorillas and tourists during the experience.

These precautions guarantee gorilla safety, reduce stress, and stop the spread of infections because these animals are extremely sensitive to human presence.

Maintaining the distance (7 meters): Visitors are required to keep a minimum of 7 meters (about 23 feet) away from the gorillas. This is because gorillas can easily contract human illnesses such as flu and colds. This helps to reduce the chance of spreading those infections to them.

Do not temper to touch the gorillas: Because gorillas are wild animals you need to have it at the back of your mind. However close it comes to you, do not temper to touch them.

Always stay calm and quiet in the jungle: Steer clear of abrupt movements or loud noises that could startle or frighten the gorillas. It’s usually preferable to appreciate the experience in silence, but if you must speak, speak on a low tone.

Don’t litter the area: Littering in their habitat is strictly forbidden since it can harm the gorilla’s health.  We highly urge preserving the environment by leaving it the way you found it.

Please follow the rules and regulations assigned by the rangers: These rangers are skilled professionals who prioritize the protection of both humans and gorillas. In case the gorillas charge or behave violently, you will be guided on how to respond for example usually by lowering down gently or reducing eye contact.

For example, if a curious baby gorilla approaches during the experience, you must remain calm and avoid touching it, even if it seems playful. Keep it in mind that adherence to these rules ensures a safe and unforgettable experience.
